Christmas may seem to be like an overly
commercialized holiday to many people. From the shopping mall Santas to the overly decorated window displays, there are many reasons people can see that. But to me it happens to be more than that. To many
people around the world there are different and special ways they celebrate and
bring meaning to this time of year. I
for one see Christmas as time to not only celebrate Jesus Christ’s birth but to
celebrate with my really... extensive family. My clan has carried a tradition
of partying, eating, and, well, drinking the night away during that day. For me
Christmas is a time of pure joy, a day where one simply forget all the negativity in your
life and just enjoy the moment. From all the Christmases I had I can only
remember smiles and laughter. It’s a way to bring family and even friends
together to spend time in such a wonderful way! But I can only hope and wish
that everyone around the world can experience that too.
I know it may be cliché, but my wish for
the world that there would be joy this season and even after. Even though
happiness sounds like not much, but it happens to mean a lot for people who
have so little to people who have so much. I understand that there could be
more to wish for, but I feel that joy is the most flexible gift to give. You
can spread it through gifts, jokes, companionship, time, and so much more! It’s
not the idea of happiness I am wishing for but the way it would be spread. The
world nowadays seems like a dark and terrible place, but if everyone can change
their state of mind through kindness, love, generosity, and so on, without a
doubt the world would be full of joy. Nonetheless there are many wishes that
people have for the world for this Christmas, but for our class we had the
opportunity to show it through a lantern.
When we were first given the project, I
expected it be easier since it involved the entire class to work on it. The
concept seemed unique and I felt happy to have contributed by giving my ideas,
the materials, and of course work! There were many challenges being faced, especially
our poor team leaders, but eventually we presented an output that we could all
say that we were proud of. I felt like it did not just show our wish for the
world, but each and every one’s individual wish that is hung beneath the lantern
which I find beautiful.
